The end of a chapter, the beginning of another
Viktor smirked. He had finally gotten rid of that strange, bird girl. Funny, he had been dared to do it but that girl was easy pie for him, which meant easy money. Just when Viktor was wondering what scared the rest of the kids so much about Falani, he heard the distant flapping of wings. Was it a raven? He thought. Ravens were a symbol of bad luck in the village. They usually meant impending doom or change, in a hundred and eighty degrees way.
Viktor looked up in the sky. No sight of any flying creatures. Then, he looked down into the well before him. He caught a glimpse of a bird-like silhouette. He screamed and backed away, falling as he did onto the rocky ground. Falani emerged from the well, wings in full bloom. "What the-" Viktor started to curse. Falani looked at him, at first, in disgust. Then, in fear. She was never supposed to be seen in her wing-form. Frantically, she flew off, high into the sky. The winds cried her name, whispering words of encouragment for the Warrior of the Air. Falani heard Viktor hurling strained words of insult at her from behind but the winds blew them away. Her sharp vision caught sight of Viktor being attacked by a flock of ravens, her companions. Falani gasped. This violence was not what she had wanted. Calling to them in their tongue, Falani warned them to stay away from the village. There was hesitation amongst the flock but they flew off to join Falani.
Falani was worried, she had never been this far away from the village in her life. She heard the voice of the wind, as if it was her own. She felt its push. She felt its embrace. Opening her eyes, Falani took off, in the direction of the forests, with the wind as her guide force. "Never return..." its voice whispered. "Never return to this 'home' again..." Falani rode the wind, along with the ravens, to an uncertain future.
