Interwined souls

The everlasting green stretched so far. Falani wondered where she was headed. Why was the wind guiding her? Her raven companions had since left her behind, in search of their own breakfast. In the skies, Falani scanned the ground beneath. She was getting tired, it had been quite a flight from the village. Then, Falani heard a howl, breaking through the voice of the wind. Another howl echoed in the distance. Falani felt a sensation of awakening deep within her soul. It was almost as if the wolves had spoken in her tongue, just merely another dialect she had yet to master.

Falani felt the instinct she had inherited from her ancestors stirring up a storm in the pit of her stomach. She had to follow the call. It was the only natural thing to do. Falani flew in the direction of the howl, frantic to find out who had made the call. The invisible threads guided Falani into the trees. Where was she now? Falani had no idea but she knew she had to keep flying.

Soon, Falani saw that there was an open meadow ahead of her. The grass blades swayed in the wind, the wind of her calling. It cried her name, whispering words of encouragement. What she had seeked was here. Falani was unusually certain of that. Falani landed in the soft grass bed that seemed to go on forever. There were tiny pink and purple flowers sprouting out of the grass. Butterflies had made the meadow their home. Falani was stunned and touched by the view. It was certainly heaven on Earth. This place was pure, probably free of the touch of humans. The only place that humans had not manage to trod on.

This was the place of her calling, a place that her heart called home. Falani sighed. This felt like home. Falani laid down in the grass. She was safe here. Then, Falani heard something sniffing curiously at her hair. Falani looked up and found herself staring eye-to-eye with a friendly face. She sat up gently, ruffling her feathers as she did. The boy watched Falani with wide-eyes. His ocean-blue eyes glistened in the sun. There was a sudden silence in the meadow. It seemed as if the birds had stopped their chirping and the butterflies had stopped their fluttering.

There was just something about this boy Falani found intriguing. His blonde hair shone in the sun's rays. On his face, there was a look full of curiosity and yet, loneliness like no other she had ever come across. The threads of connections led to him. The boy stared back at Falani. She was the first winged human creature he had ever come across in the region and yet, she smelt raven, she acted raven and she seemed raven. But he was confused. Was she raven or human?

"What's your name?" Falani started out, breaking the intense silence that had began to develop between the both of them. "Adelland. What's yours?" The boy stared back at Falani, scrutinizing her once more. "F-falani... Why are you looking at me like that?" Falani spoke, uncertain. "Are you raven or human?" Adelland asked. "I... What?" "Are you raven or human? You smell raven." "I'm.. not quite sure. You see, I always had this ability to fly and grow wings every full moon. Its a phase."

"And I manage to pick up scents of different stuff from a mile away." Adelland smirked, almost arrogant. Falani stared at Adelland in awe. "So.. What're you doing here?" "Me? I live here, of course. Down the meadow, cross the stream, the Stonehedge."
